[wpsm_dropcap]L[/wpsm_dropcap]inkin Park singer Chester Bennington was found dead on July 20th, 2017 after he reportedly hung himself at a private residence in Los Angeles, TMZ reports.
The 41-year old singer was married with 6 children from 2 wives. Chester Bennington has admitted to struggling with drugs and alcohol for years. He had considered suicide because he was abused as a child by an older male, although this may not have been his motive.
ourGemCodes pays respect to Chester and his family. As someone growing up listening to Linkin Park, this was devastating news for me. Chester will always be missed and loved by many even in death. Rather than posting breaking news like all the other blogs; I really wanted to take the time to listen to all the Linkin Park songs over again.
Linkin Park and Chester Bennington helped me through some of my darkest times. Here are my 5 favorite song lyrics that helped me deal with suicide and depression:
[wpsm_numhead num=”5″ style=”2″ heading=”2″]One More Light – Linkin Park[/wpsm_numhead]
Should’ve stayed, were there signs, I ignored?
Can I help you, not to hurt, anymore?
We saw brilliance, when the world, was asleep
There are things that we can have, but can’t keep
The song One More Light is about a friend who lost a battle to cancer, Mike said in an interview. This song is about dealing with someones death, and the line “there are things that we can have, but can’t keep” is essentially a metaphor for having someone in your life that is important to you, but then they die.
[wpsm_numhead num=”4″ style=”2″ heading=”2″]Castle of Glass – Linkin Park[/wpsm_numhead]
Fly me up on a silver wing
Past the black where the sirens sing
Warm me up in a nova’s glow
And drop me down to the dream below
In the Bible, God says he will lift us up on eagle’s wings whenever we are at low points in our lives. Oftentimes, we dream to forget what is happening in our lives, which is why the speaker wishes to be dreaming instead of dealing with this depression.
[wpsm_numhead num=”3″ style=”2″ heading=”2″]Somewhere I Belong – Linkin Park[/wpsm_numhead]
I wanna heal, I wanna feel what I thought was never real
I wanna let go of the pain I’ve felt so long
(Erase all the pain till it’s gone)
Many people don’t believe that there is way out of depression and sadness, but there is hope. Even in times when you feel as if you don’t exist; we appear invisible to others.
[wpsm_numhead num=”2″ style=”2″ heading=”2″]Linkin Park – Nobody Can Save Me[/wpsm_numhead]
But nobody can save me now
I’m holding up a light
I’m chasing out the darkness inside
‘Cause nobody can save me
Chester has realized that he is the only one that can help him to get out of the place he is at, he will have to overcome the difficulties on his own. He clarifies that no one will help him (nobody can save me) so he needs to make this journey on his own.
[wpsm_numhead num=”1″ style=”2″ heading=”2″]In the end – Linkin Park[/wpsm_numhead]
I tried so hard and got so far
But in the end, it doesn’t even matter
I had to fall to lose it all
But in the end it doesn’t even matter
The song, ‘In The End’ is about dealing with life. At certain points in time, we try so hard and dedicated everything we have to a goal. And after all the blood, sweat, and tears… nothing even matters. We’re only here for a moment in time and what we think is important now; won’t matter tomorrow.
RIP Chester Bennington
You will be missed.
it’s sad how ALL these subtle warnings went unheard. It was in almost every song; at least one cry for help. But no one truly looked into it.
So now we lost a good guy.
oh man did not expect that one
