WalMart apologizes for selling the Super NES Classic Mini before its release date

The Super NES Classic launches September 29th, 2017.

[wpsm_dropcap]H[/wpsm_dropcap]oly crap; this sucks balls.  If you were one of the poor souls who pre-ordered the new Super NES Classic from Walmart last week, then you’re about to be disappointed.  Walmart sent out an email explaining that they’ve canceled your pre-order.

In case you’ve been living under a rock, the Super NES Classic Edition is a 16-bit micro-console being sold by Nintendo for $80.  The console is in limited-supply which makes it a collector’s item  and comes with 21 games.

Last year, Nintendo sold the NES Classic Edition which was a huge sales hit for Nintendo.  Since the NES Classic was so difficult to find, many fans pre-ordered the new Super NES in hopes of getting one.  Many fans were grateful and relieved for buying the console early, until and email was sent out by walmart that read:

“Unfortunately, due to a technical glitch, the Super Nintendo Classic Edition was mistakenly made available last Friday evening ahead of the official release date,” said Deserie Dulaney, senior director for customer care at Walmart. “We, regrettably, will have to cancel this item on your order. We know that this is incredibly disappointing to you, and we’re truly sorry for this mistake.”

Walmart has done nothing to compensate their customers besides an open-apology letter.  Nintendo fans will have to find a more trustworthy place to shop.

It should be noted that Walmart isn’t entirely to blame.  Nintendo has had a long history of creating “artificial scarcity” to increase the demand of their products.  It wouldn’t surprise me if Nintendo did this on purpose to create a more competitive marketplace.
