[wpsm_dropcap]G[/wpsm_dropcap]amasutra reported that IGN, the major gaming and entertainment site, has just purchased Humble Bundle.
Humble Bundle sells groups of games, books, software, apps, and other media in a pay-what-you-want setup, with a portion of sales going to charities. Humble Bundle has had over 10 million customers and has raised over 106 million dollars for charities like the American Red Cross and Make-A-Wish. Humble Bundle has also published games, including the recent 3D platformer — A Hat in Time.
Humble Bundle will continue to operate as an independent entity. It won’t have any major staffing changes in the wake of the purchase.
“We chose IGN because they really understand our vision, share our passion for games, and believe in our mission to promote awesome digital content while helping charity,” Jeff Rosen, Humble Bundle’s chief executive officer and co-founder, noted in a press release.
IGN started in 1996. It is owned by Ziff Davis, a subsidiary of the Los Angeles-based technology company J2 Global. Ziff Davis, which used to own gaming magazines like Electronic Gaming Monthly and Computer Gaming World, acquired IGN in 2013.
IGN used to have its own digital game store, Direct2Drive, but it sold it to GameFly in 2011.
